Tony’s Story Receives Medal of the Order of Australia

Tony McGinn OAM, Deputy Chairman of the Children’s Cancer Foundation was recognised in the 2015 Australia Day honours, receiving a Medal of the Order of Australia.

Tony was awarded his OAM by the Governor General in the General Division “for service to the community, particularly through fundraising events”.

Tony has been committed to raising the profile of children’s cancer since 2000 when his son Ben was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at the age of 3 years. Ben is now a healthy young adult. His contributions to improve the quality of life and services for children under treatment for cancer include:

  • Deputy Chairman, Children’s Cancer Foundation (2012 – current);
  • Founding Chairman, The Million Dollar Lunch (2005-2014), helping to raise more than $11.4 million over this period;
  • Chairman, Kids Oncology and Leukaemia Action Foundation (KOALA Foundation), (2005-2012);
  • President, KOALA Foundation (2003-2005);Active involvement, KOALA Foundation (2000-2003);
  • Founder and Executive Director of MCM Entertainment Group, providing pro bono office space and event services to the Foundation (2004 – current).

The Children’s Cancer Foundation is immensely grateful for Tony’s continued support in building awareness and raising funds for childhood cancer.
