Tuesday, 8th October, was a milestone day for the Children’s Cancer Foundation as we joined Minister for Medical Research, The Hon Ben Carroll, at the official launch of the Victorian Paediatric Cancer Consortium Limited (VPCC Ltd), to celebrate our joint vision and partnership.
Through the Consortium, the Foundation has helped unite the best and brightest minds from leading children’s hospitals, research institutes and universities – to do things differently, to accelerate research and create the change childhood cancer desperately needs.
Newly appointed CEO, Dr Udani Reets, is now leading the charge, with a new and independent board of directors, including former Chief Medical Officer, Professor Brendan Murphy AC, as Chair.
The vital work of the VPCC Ltd is being bolstered by a $35 million investment from the Victorian State Government over the next five years. With our Foundation committing a further $10 million, to form a $45 million investment package.
The VPCC is the Foundation’s biggest undertaking to date and will support discovery research and clinical innovation programs to revolutionise paediatric oncology in Victoria and improve outcomes for children impacted by cancer worldwide.
This is a very special moment for us, as parents and supporters of people impacted by childhood cancer. We are humbled by the extraordinary leaders and scientists that have joined us in the quest for better, kinder treatments and by the generous support of the Victorian Government.
