Our Board & Staff

Our board consists of outstanding business and legal professionals who each volunteer their time and expertise. The board includes parents of children who have experienced cancer and a childhood cancer survivor, who bring a personal understanding of the challenges and issues.

Jeremy Smith - Chairman

Barrister: Commercial, property, employment and estate litigation. 

Jeremy joined the board of the Children’s Cancer Foundation in 2009. Jeremy is the father of Linus who was diagnosed with and thankfully survived, a rare and very dangerous tumour, rhabdomyosarcoma in 2007, at the age of three.

Jeff Darmanin

Executive Director, Children’s Cancer Foundation 

Jeff is a management consultant with a background in manufacturing and finance. In 2009, Jeff's 15-year-old son William was diagnosed with desmoplastic small round cell tumours. After four years of relentless fighting he sadly lost his battle. Will's journey inspired Jeff and his family to join the fight against childhood cancer, including as a board member and becoming our Executive Director in 2020

Peter Crinis

Chief Operating Officer for Crown Hotels and Food and Beverage

Peter oversees the Food and Beverage offering at Crown Melbourne & Sydney and the Retail offering at Crown Melbourne Perth and Sydney, making him responsible for one of the largest pieces of tourism infrastructure in Australia. Peter is also a board member of the Visit Victoria and Tourism Accommodation Australia.

Tracey Danaher

Professor, Monash Business School

Tracey Danaher is the mother of Zac who at age 8, lost his battle with a Choroid Plexus Carcinoma. Her research is interdisciplinary merging psychology, marketing, analytics, and economics in retail and service contexts including health care. Tracey was previously the Academic Director of the Australian Centre for Retail Studies at Monash University and has published extensively.

Nat Lippiatt

Former Director Three’s a Crowd (3AC) brand agency.  

Nat's career began in the Private Office of Jeff Kennett where she worked as a designer and photographer within the Communications Unit. Nat moved to the private enterprise before founding Three's a Crowd in 2000. In 2019 Nat stepped back from business ownership to work as a freelance marketing and branding consultant.

Maurizio Marcocci

Director, University Food Group and Chair of My Room 

The Marcocci family was instrumental in the establishment of My Room as a consequence of Maurizio’s diagnosis of Hodgkin’s Disease at the age of 13 in August 1991. Maurizio has been actively involved and supported My Room for over two decades.

Kevin Martin

Chartered Accountant, Global Financial Director of Ryco Hydraulics Group entities. 

Kevin has previously held long term Chief Financial Officer position of a significant Australian listed company, a director of numerous subsidiaries in Australia and overseas. Kevin was a director of both KOALA Foundation and the Children’s Cancer Foundation before the merger in 2012.

Mary McGowan

Community Liaison Officer, Children’s Cancer Centre, Paediatric Oncology, Royal Children’s Hospital 

Mary’s nursing career and work in childhood cancer span over 40 years in Australia. Mary joined the Foundation’s board in 2001. She contributes to numerous other children’s cancer committees, volunteer groups and fundraising, and is a founding and current committee member of My Room and the Murray to Moyne. Mary received a Pride of Australia Medal in 2006, recognising her phenomenal work with children’s cancer.

James Roche

Executive Director, Roche Holdings and Director, Australian Davos Connection 

James’ past roles have included co-founder and owner of HealthCare of Australia Holdings and an analyst with Merrill Lynch investment banking group. James is the former Chairman and current Committee member of My Room.
